Unit 1 - Forces & Motion CompleteWe finished our unit on Forces and Motion by building a car seat for an egg that was going to crash into a wall. Then everyone wrote about how understanding Newton's Laws of Motion helped them protect the egg.
We are finishing up our Newton's Laws of Motion unitWe are building seats to protect an egg during a car crash into a wall. Ask your student how their seat will protect the egg and how Newton's Laws were used in designing the egg. (Hopefully they will talk about inertia, equal & opposite forces, and acceleration). We are testing on Monday and writing a conclusion on Tuesday.
A Message from the PTO:
Dear Oak & Sherwood Middle Schools Families & Friends, We are excited to kick-off a fair trade fundraiser to benefit the Shrewsbury Middle Schools. Through Monday, November 18th, you will have the opportunity to purchase a variety of fair trade holiday gifts and products and the Middle Schools will receive 30% of product sales to go towards enrichment programs, field trip expenses, and other activities and materials for our students that are not covered by the school budget.
From production to purchase, fair trade is a model of ethical, sustainable trade that puts people and planet first, so please share this fundraising opportunity with your friends and family! Thank you, Shrewsbury Middle School PTO Students in ELA and math are working on an exiting project! Students are creating their own businesses, writing a business plan, and creating a shopping plaza presentation! See the attached images for more information.
In Social Studies, we are focusing on the two ancient governments that have impacted the development of the US Government. First, the students studied Greek city-states and focused on Athens & Sparta. We talked about democracy and how the culture of Athens drove their participation in government. In class, we used real-life situations that the Athenian ecclesia debated and voted on to get a feel for exactly how a direct democracy worked. I was very impressed with students' ability to form their own conclusions quickly based on the roles in society they were assigned. The attached photos are from this activity :) This week, we started looking at Ancient Rome & are currently focusing on location & overall values. Soon we will be looking specifically at the Roman Republic's representative democracy and comparing it to our government. |
