In June, each 8th grade team has its own "Celebration Day" to mark the end of the students' time at Oak. Parents, friends, and other family members are all welcome to attend this event. 8 Blue's Celebration will be on Thursday, June 14, at 12:30 in the Oak auditorium.
We will be sending out more information about this event via email soon.

Students have been working on a science fiction unit centered around three essential questions:
How can literature teach us about the issues in our society? Can fiction reveal truth? Can individuals change society? At this point, they are wrapping up their books, either Fahrenheit 451 or The Giver, and I'm so impressed with the connections they are making between the book and our world today! Check out some of their thoughts! Although we are not quite experiencing the "re-birth" of nature outside yet, we are definitely experiencing it indoors with the Renaissance. Students have been looking at the major parallels between Classical, Medieval, & Renaissance history and are just starting to analyze art on their own. Soon you will be able to ask them about the people behind some of the major sights and masterpieces of Florence and beyond.
Last week, we looked at the printing press and how it is among one of the most revolutionary inventions of our time. Check out students using their own "movable type" below to create their own texts. We are using JogNog quizzes to help review and prepare for Science MCAS. We just achieved the 500 Tower Certificate. Ask your student, how they are doing.
